The Arts

This Area of Learning comprises the subjects of Art and Design, Drama and Music.  It provides rich opportunities for developing creativity, allowing children to express their ideas, feelings and interpretations of the world through pictures, sound, drama and dance.

Art

All classes are timetabled with weekly art lessons. In recent years, each class has held an art exhibition to display its work. The children’s parents are invited along to view and purchase their child’s art piece. The school invites a guest speaker to appraise the work and talk about the importance of developing children’s artistic skills.

Music

The school has two specialist Music teachers. St.Patrick’s Primary School is renowned for its choir which participates in many events. The children from P.4. to P.7. are all provided with the opportunity to sing in the choir. Music lessons are also timetabled in all classes each week. The school produces an annual school show where every single child has a part.

The Western Education and Library Board send in a Brass tutor to the school once per week. The school has a long standing brass tradition. The school has a renowned brass band that play at both school and local events.

The children also learn to play the tin whistle. This is taught as part of it cultural heritage approach where some classes learn to speak the Irish language and others learn traditions such as playing the tin whistle.
