Dear Parent,
The P.T.A. has organised outdoor signage via the Policing & Community Safe Partnership. We have been furnished with two signs that are images of a little girl and boy. Primaries 1, 2 and 3 are going to participate in a colouring competition to colour-in these characters. The best colouring-in will receive a special prize provided by Policing & Community Safe Partnership. The runners up will receive an Easter Egg. Primaries 4, 5, 6 and 7 will submit two names for the characters. Names will be drawn out of a hat and the child whose name wins will also get a prize.
This is a fun activity but there is a very serious message. I have already highlighted the need for increased safety when travelling through the school grounds to you this week. I also want to stress that safe parking is really important. When you park, especially when you have to reverse, please be aware of that child or grandparent or indeed anyone being in your path. We are also going to focus on road safety with the children in the coming weeks. Of course, this applies to using the school grounds safely but it also aims to make the children aware of road safety as a lesson for life.
I have always believed that road safety education is underplayed but it is probably one of the most important lessons we all need for life.
I would like to thank the P.T.A. and the Policing & Community Safe Partnership for providing us with this impetus and focus.
