Pat Murphy
Dear Parent,
It is with great sadness that I write to you. This week we lost Pat Murphy a dear friend and highly respected man in our community. Pat had a special affiliation with St.Patrick’sPrimary School Mullanaskea. He served as caretaker there for many years. He worked alongside his beloved Ann, and in Pat ‘s own words, the day was never dull. He visited the school regularly and fondly recalled the craic that he and Ann had. The staff loved Pat. But then everyone loved Pat. He was very easy to love.
Pat was a people person. He could talk to anyone. He had a joy of living. I loved to see Pat coming into the school. I loved hearing his stories and I loved the joy he brought with him. I always told him to call in at a quarter to eleven so that he could cover both classroom assistants’ and teachers’ tea breaks. I always promised that I would have cream buns waiting for him. About a week prior to lockdown Pat called in for a visit. He was in fine form and showed me his new car with all its fancy gadgets and leather seats. In a sense, that typified Pat. He was forever young and I shall treasure that memory. I shall also try to emulate Pat’s zest for life and his love and time for people. I have learned so much from him and I shall miss him so so much.
I wish to extend all our sympathies on behalf of Governors, staff, children and the entire school community to the Murphy and Cox families. May he rest in peace.
