Congratulations Sam

Sam Curley, P.7 pupil, June 2024, was awarded a SILVER Primary Engineer MacRobert Medal for his innovative idea of the ‘MOVING SOLAR PANEL’. 

Sam had noticed that many rooftops, especially those facing east-west couldn’t fully benefit from solar energy.  He came up with the idea of a system that allows solar panels to shift position throughout the day to maximise sunlight capture. 

His vision inspired the QUB ProtoTeam, to develop a prototype that could do what Sam wanted and enhance solar output by up to 45%.

The finished Moving Solar Panel is designed to be practical, easy to install and adaptable for residential use.

In June 2024, Sam proudly saw his idea come to life at a special awards ceremony in Belfast. Congratulations, once again to Sam.
